IBM Cloud

IBM Cloud is IBM's enterprise cloud computing platform, providing infrastructure, platform, AI, and hybrid cloud services to organizations around the world. It helps businesses build, deploy, and manage applications across public, private, and hybrid cloud environments.

Overview

Transforming complex networking workflows into intuitive user experiences

IBM Cloud Infrastructure powers the core services organizations rely on to build and manage applications in the cloud, including networking, security, compute, and storage. These tools help customers securely connect resources, scale workloads, and operate cloud environments across global regions.

On the Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) Infrastructure team, I designed enterprise experiences that simplified complex networking and administration workflows for cloud engineers and IT professionals.

About my role

Transforming complex networking workflows into intuitive user experiences

For three years, I worked as a Visual and UX Designer on IBM Cloud's Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) Infrastructure team. I designed networking and security experiences, partnered with cross-functional teams to deliver complex enterprise software, and helped establish shared patterns, iconography, and visual frameworks across the VPC portfolio.

As a sponsor user for IBM Brand and Carbon, I also contributed to the evolution of IBM's broader design language while helping drive consistency across cloud products.

Cloud Infrastructure

Making complex cloud infrastructure approachable and actionable

Cloud infrastructure provides the foundational networking, compute, storage, and security services organizations use to build, run, and scale applications in the cloud.

Designed the end-to-end Firewall service experience, including service exploration, provisioning, instance management, and monitoring. Created dashboard and data visualization experiences that transformed complex network activity into actionable insights for cloud administrators.

Firewall

Created a suite of service icons for the IBM Cloud catalog, to establish better visual consistency across a growing portfolio of cloud services.

Service icons

Designed one of the first network topology experiences for IBM Cloud's software-defined networking services, enabling users to visualize, configure, and manage relationships between cloud resources. This work explored how interactive topology views could help administrators understand infrastructure at a glance and informed many of the topology patterns used across IBM Cloud today.

SDN Topology builder

Contributed early network diagramming frameworks that translated complex networking terminology, architectures, and service relationships into clear visual documentation. Through the use of iconography, connection patterns, and standardized diagram conventions, this work established a common visual language that helped users learn, communicate, and reason about cloud networking concepts.

Network diagrams

Designed the end-to-end Load Balancer experience, including service discovery, feature comparison, provisioning, monitoring, and ongoing management. I also helped modernize the service as it transitioned from the legacy SoftLayer platform to IBM Cloud, aligning the experience with IBM's design language and Carbon Design System.

Good Design Australia Awards

Contributing to an award-winning cloud platform experience

The IBM Cloud VPC Infrastructure team received a 2019 Good Design Australia Award for its work re-imagining complex cloud infrastructure workflows through a more intuitive and user-centered experience. As part of the design team, I contributed to creating clearer, more approachable networking and infrastructure experiences while helping drive consistency across the broader IBM Cloud ecosystem.

Automatic IP range selection

U.S. Patent

I worked with a team of designers and developers on IBM Cloud to design and develop a more innovative way for users to easily configure a subnet within an IP range to select a space within its location and size. We were granted a patent, the Automatic IP range selection, with the U.S. government in May 2021.

Customer Support Phone System–Specialized Agent

Publication: Exploring AI-assisted customer support experiences

l contributed to early explorations of AI-assisted customer support experiences that helped connect customers with the most appropriate support resources based on their needs and context. The work focused on reducing friction within complex support workflows while improving efficiency for both customers and support teams.

Method and System for Enabling a User to Choose Support Agents

Publication: Putting users in control of their support experience

l contributed to a published invention that re-imagined customer support by allowing users to make informed decisions about who assists them. The work explored ways to surface agent expertise, qualifications, and contextual information, creating a more transparent support experience while helping users reach the right expertise faster.
