Hey there, Iโm Lauren Rice.
I am a Senior Visual Design Lead with over a decade of experience building enterprise software and design systems.
For the past eight years, I have helped lead and evolve IBM's Carbon Design System, overseeing libraries, design tooling, governance, and large-scale system initiatives used across IBM's software portfolio. Before joining the Carbon Design System, I worked on IBM Cloud infrastructure software for three years, where I developed a deep appreciation for solving complex problems within highly technical domains. Today, I focus on connecting design, engineering, and governance to create systems that help teams move faster while maintaining quality and consistency.
When I'm not thinking about design, you'll usually find me outdoors. I live on a quaint lake in New Hampshire, ride dressage, travel whenever I get the chance, and spend time with my two very opinionated Siamese cats who constantly remind me who's really in charge!
I believe great design systems are built the same way great communities are: through collaboration, stewardship, and a willingness to leave things better than you found them. Whether I'm helping shape a design system used by thousands of designers or serving on the board of my local lake association in New Hampshire, I enjoy bringing people together around a shared goal.
